Where
is Jack Now? |
Originally hailing from Tennessee, Jack Landry started off his acting career with local theatre in his hometown of Knoxville. In high school, Jack landed a small role in the CBS pilot Christy, where Jack worked with Golden Globe winner, Tyne Daly. The writers were so impressed with his performance, his small role turned into nine episodes. Continuing his penchant for period work, Jack took the unusually mature role of the Red-Haired Soldier in the Hallmark production of Carson McCullers’ A Member of the Wedding—where as a WWII soldier on furlough, he attempts to seduce twelve year-old Frankie played by Oscar-winner Anna Paquin.
Jack then choose to continue his education at the College of Charleston, receiving his B.A. in Theatre. In college, Jack continued his work in theatre and television, playing the role of Larry Sweet in the NBC movie, Love’s Deadly Triangle—the story of a high-school romance gone wrong. While acting and studying, Jack was a tour guide for the historic city of Charleston, SC, where he drove horse-drawn carriages, gave walking tours of the historic city, and even opened his own pub-tour company.
Jack continued to study theatre, attending the Stanislavky Summer School, an intensive six-week training program run in association with the American Repertory Theatre and the Moscow Art Theatre (MXAT Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard)
After Cambridge, Jack was one of eight students accepted to the Meisner-based Pennsylvania State University’s MFA program for Acting, where, for three years, he was a graduate assistant and member of the Theatre 100 company. There, a student said of Jack:
“I had the opportunity to watch him in several stage engagements, from Shakespeare's Orsino to the more modern Stop/Kiss. He is, in my opinion, the best young actor I have ever known. His natural wit and humor are combined with an uncanny ability to shift between the ludicrous and the utterly serious. From a horny greek (Lysistrata) to a horrific and majestic horse (Equus), his range is truly astounding.” –-Matt, Theatre 100 student, Spring 2004.
After receiving his MFA, Jack married his college sweetheart, Weatherly, and moved to Wilmington, NC. Once in Wilmington, Jack landed a role in the NBC series, Surface, with Lake Bell, where he played Jared, a quirky friend and confidant to a young boy who befriends a sea monster. Jack has also appeared in Wilmington’s long running WB show, One Tree Hill.
Recently, Jack played Albion Tourgee in the upcoming biopic of jazz inventor Buddy Bolden, starring Anthony Mackie, scheduled for release in late 2008. Currently, Jack is shooting Good Old Fashioned Orgy (to be released in 2009), a comedy with Jason Sudeikis and Lindsay Sloane, where he plays the not-so-cool Reverend Jake.
Jack continues to live and work in Wilmington, NC with his wife, where he teaches Acting at Cape Fear Community College.
